Main Field(s) of Research, Abstract
Our research activities are focused on food allergy, in particular pollen related food allergy. We are particularly involved into the identification and molecular characterisation of important cross-reactive allergens, and the development of diagnostic and therapeutic methods based on recombinant allergens. Allergen based or component resolved diagnosis in food allergy is a major topic of our research group. Another important aspect of our research activity is risk assessment in food allergy in regard to genetic modified foods/novel foods but also threshold doses (minimal allergen doses to induce an allergic reaction) of plant and animal food allergens. We are and have been involved in five EU sponsored projects on food allergy.

Special Techniques and Equipment
Methods established in our group include molecular biology, different detection methods and quantification of specific IgE such as CAP and EAST, furthermore IgE immunoblotting and cell release assays as histamine release, cellular antigen stimulatory test (CAST). Our main focus is in clinical research, where we have established methods to perform double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges (DBPCFC), determination of threshold levels for food, and matrix comparisons.
Education and Training
We offer training access for clinical research in food allergy, in particular handling of DBPCFCs.
